Boundcon Trade Fair – Captivating impressions and reflections

It’s been almost a month since the Boundcon fair, famous throughout Europe, took place. The Safeword Magazine team is already planning to attend the 2027 edition. In a nutshell: the visitors, exhibitors and artists – the event as a whole was simply unforgettable and left us with many wonderful memories that we’d love to share with our reader:

The Shows 

The highlights of the event are various live bondage shows, performed by masters and mistresses who, with relish, eroticism and great expertise, wrap their ‘victims’ in ropes, restrain them, subdue them, punish and/or reward them, and even make them ‘fly’. These intimate moments are shared with a wide audience, and you can feel the energy flowing from the stage to the spectators – enthusiastic glances, joyful faces. In that moment, as a spectator, you feel connected to the performers.

During the performance, a respectful atmosphere prevails and the scene is not disturbed by noise, comments or other disruptive behaviour. Those who are currently interested in something else leave the area and pursue their own interests.

Exhibitors, products and services 

We were pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of stalls: a rich selection of stalls, varying in size and theme, created a very cohesive atmosphere.

The first thing that caught our eye was a large selection of clothing made from various materials. There was everything from standard clubwear, through leather and PVC, to a fantastic range of fashion latex, as well as full-face masks and bondage gear.

There were also accessories, jewellery, shoes and boots – so if you wanted to put together a cool new outfit for the evening’s party right there and then, there was something to suit every taste.

A great many fashion stalls also offered bespoke tailoring, meaning visitors could order an item on the spot that was perfectly tailored to their body according to their measurements.

As is traditional – and much to our delight – there was also a lovely selection of handmade restraints – from the brands we know and love, such as McHurt Berlin, to small, brilliant manufacturers who aren’t yet so well known.

In keeping with the theme of the fair, visitors could see, touch and try out all kinds of restraint and bondage equipment: metal frames, as seen in Insex, 3D-printed models with timers and/or remote controls, leather, ropes and Segufix-style systems.

There was plenty of variety, yet a good balance between drum kits, restraints, standard clubwear and even more unusual items, including those made from latex.

Visitors and encounters 

We made a conscious decision to attend the fair as ‘ordinary’ visitors – without team uniforms and without any major advertising. We wanted to start by engaging in personal conversations and, naturally, if there was interest, to network and ask for short interviews or photos. We were really successful in doing just that. The audience was very open and sociable, and it was easy to strike up numerous conversations. The Boundcon fair can be proud of its pleasant, intercultural audience: a friendly atmosphere, respectful interaction, openness, body positivity, inclusivity and curiosity rather than judgement.

Some guests had put a lot of effort into their outfits, but there were no expectations either. There was no exclusion: guests dressed in elaborate outfits were also very happy to chat and interact with those dressed more casually.

Generally speaking, one got the impression that very few people had simply stumbled upon the fair by chance. 

Organisation & Venue 

Huge praise for the organising team: they’d thought of everyone – access to all areas of the fair is barrier-free. There were lovely, wide aisles between the stands and plenty of space in the toilets – everyone could move about freely, whether on foot, on their knees or in a wheelchair. Pleasant music played in the background, and the volume was never so high that you couldn’t hold a conversation. This ensured that, despite the large numbers of visitors at peak times, everyone could still find a spot for themselves where they could chat, sit down, rest or engage in a more in-depth conversation.

We felt the catering could have been improved, but as the food and drink on offer at the stalls was very good, we didn’t go hungry.

The weather was very pleasantly warm and dry, and the outdoor area was, of course, used extensively, not just during the performance slots. We thought it was very welcoming that the bondage areas were generally open to everyone, regardless of whether you were registered as a performer and had put on a show, or whether you simply wanted to try out a newly purchased toy with a partner.

It was one of the coolest events, not just for bondage fetishists, but it was truly inclusive – offering a huge variety of styles, materials, clothing, art, toys and even literature.
